The Big Sur Experience

(L-R) Lisa, Adrian, JP, Nick after their 26.2 miles
On Sunday, one of the most scenic road racing events took place in Carmel, the Big Sur International Marathon.  The event offers, not only the full marathon running along the beautiful California coast line, but a variety of other race distances including a 5k.  We would have 3 men representing the orange and black in the hilly 26.2 distance, while 4 ladies challenged themselves in the Pacific Association's 5k race.

Running the first marathon of his young career, JP Thyken would be our top finisher in the event with a 3:05:37 clocking for 34th overall.  Not too far back was former college teammate (SCU), Nick Arcelona at 3:14:08.  Rallying through the miles and dropping over 20min from his previous crack at the distance, Adrian Arcelona recorded a 3:37:25.

Claire & Lisa
Running at a much quicker rate, but obviously at a dramatically shorter distance, Claire Saxton led our ladies in the 5k* event.  A solid time of 19:48 found Claire finishing 14th in the women's division.  Lisa Renteria battled through the crowds, finishing with a time of 21:23.  Holding on strong and finishing 3rd in her age group, Michelle Moran notched a 23:31, with former Willow Glen HS teammate, Maria Sosa stopping the clock at 23:54. Great job to all those who competed!  - Complete Results -
